The end of summer.

Labor Day has two hallmarks. First, it marks the end of summer, characterized by back to school, Friday night football and cooler days. And second, it marks the start of the scramble to close deals by the end of the year. In the old days (ie the early part of the decade), the phones would light up on the Tuesday following Labor Day and wouldn't stop until the week before Christmas, with everyone trying to hold onto the deal train as it flew down the tracks. But the last couple of years, the phones have remained silent, as if everyone was on an extended summer vacation. Summer 2010 has certainly seen higher activity. Let’s hope the vacation is ending.
